Man arrested for a domestic violence assault in Levant [Video]

LEVANT, Maine (WABI) – Penobscot Sheriffs responded to a domestic violence incident that led to an arrest near Levant Elementary School Wednesday.

The suspect has been identified as Nicholas Bennett 34, of Levant.

Officers responded to a domestic violence assault that did not involve weapons around 10 A.M.

The female victim was removed from the location and brought to safety, though afterwards, Bennett refused to cooperate with police.

Officials say deputies pulled back before working to renegotiate.

From there, Bennett fired several shots behind the house and the State Police Tactical Team would arrive on scene.

They say that Bennett came out of the home multiple times, but would not surrender extending the stand off.

Just past 6 P.M. Bennett was taken into custody without incident.

Bennett was charged with domestic assault and additional charges are expected to be filed.

Sherriff Troy Morton said “while this was near the school the school was not in danger at any time. …
