South Carolina woman in viral Spartanburg 911 video speaking out

A video capturing a 911 call from Spartanburg County, South Carolina, has gone viral. The call shows a telecommunicator failing to provide assistance to Lindsey Stechschulte, a local resident. Stechschulte noticed a suspicious man outside her home late at night and called 911 for help. Her subsequent attempt to get assistance ended with the telecommunicator saying, “There’s nothing more that I can do, ma’am. All right. Have a good night.””You could probably hear it in my voice when she told me that they weren’t going to come back. I was very shocked, and I started to panic,” Stechschulte said.More news: Woman posed as victim helping armed masked men rob South Carolina victim, deputies sayStechschulte’s feeling of helplessness did not subside despite the deputy eventually returning. The 911 call has prompted Spartanburg County to commence an internal investigation. On Saturday, Spartanburg County 911 released a statement admitting the call did not meet their standards of professionalism. They confirmed that though further action was taken by the telecommunicator, it was not communicated to Stechschulte, leading to undue stress.”Spartanburg County 911 would like to express our gratitude to the public for your patience as we conducted a thorough internal investigation into this incident. As we previously stated, the handling of this call did not meet the standards of professionalism or customer service we expect from our telecommunicators, nor did it align with our core values.”Through our investigation, we have confirmed that the telecommunicator in question did, in fact, take further action after speaking with the caller. She called the officer back, expressing her belief that he needed to return to the scene, which he subsequently did. Additionally, she followed up with another call to the officer while he was speaking with the caller to ensure that he had made contact with the individual.More news: Frigid cold gives way to snow and ice chances this week”However, we acknowledge that this was not communicated to the caller at the time. Instead, the telecommunicator ended the call without informing the caller of the steps being taken on her behalf. This lack of communication caused the caller and her family undue stress, and we deeply regret the negative impact this had on them.”We have also been in communication with the Chief of Police of the municipality involved in this incident. They have assured us that their department is conducting its own independent investigation into the actions of the officer, and we are working collaboratively to address the concerns raised by this incident.”We want to assure the public that we are taking swift and decisive personnel action with the telecommunicator involved. We remain committed to learning from this incident and taking the necessary steps to prevent similar situations in the future.”Thank you for your continued understanding and trust as we address this matter with the attention it deserves.”We asked Stechschulte her thoughts on the statement. While she says Spartanburg County 911 was transparent with her at first, she feels left in the dark again.”It’s frustrating because they…they said basically that she did do her job. She just didn’t let me know. I’m not sure. I haven’t talked to anybody about it, so I don’t know. I don’t know exactly what happened,” she said.
