UMaine business students pitch their ‘shark tank’ inventions [Video]

The top three contestants took home $1,000, $750, and $500 scholarship prizes.

ORONO, Maine — Six first-year business students at the University of Maine pitched their side hustle ideas Friday to a panel of judges and a crowded audience, battling it out, much like an episode of the well-known show “Shark Tank.”

Winning pitches didn’t receive an investment from one of the sharks, but the top three winners got the chance to win a scholarship prizes.

“My name is Marcus McLain, and I invite you all to stay warm and cozy this winter,” one contestant said to the judges and audience.

Each student presented a unique vision, from side hustles like selling cozy blankets and delicious international snacks to digital planners. But standing in front of judges and a crowded audience to present their ideas didn’t prove easy.
