Man accused of killing Bangor woman makes first court appearance, cause of death released | Local News [Video]

BANGOR — On Monday, September 30th inside the Penobscot Judicial Center, 42-year-old Richard Thorpe made his first appearance in court for his alleged connection to the death of 39-year-old Virginia Cookson a Bangor woman who was found dead inside her home last week.

According to an affidavit obtained by ABC7/Fox22 news, on the morning of Wednesday, September 25th two of Cookson’s co-workers from the Quality Inn in Bangor arrived at the 200 Larkin Street residence after she didn’t show up for work.

After entering the home they found Cookson in a downstairs bedroom “positioned awkwardly” and covered with a maroon blanket. According to the affidavit, one of the co-workers touched Cookson’s exposed foot and felt it was cold.

The affidavit says when authorities arrived they discovered an HDMI cord was wrapped around Cookson’s neck.

In the affidavit, sources close to Cookson gave details into their account of the relationship between her and Thorpe who was her ex-boyfriend.
