International love at first sight: Send us your pet stories [Video]

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — My dog Rex was rescued through a non-profit organization called The Tejido Project in Tulum, Mexico. My long-time high school friend and her husband lived in Tulum and posted an Instagram story asking if anyone was interested in rescuing one of the puppies that needed a home.

In Mexico, there is such a high volume of stray dogs that this organization helps find the dogs homes. They also take care of sick dogs that are roaming the streets, and they have spaying and neutering services that the whole community of Tulum comes together to help with.

I saw Rex in one of the pictures and I circled him and replied, “I would like this one!” Next thing I knew, my friend Ellie was flying him home to me!
