Family sues Fort Jackson housing, alleges son contracted encephalitis from raw sewage leaks [Video]

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A military family filed a lawsuit against Fort Jackson’s housing provider this, claiming the company’s negligence caused their 4-year-old child to become sick.

Travis Wilson, an officer at the Chaplain’s Corps for the U.S. Army, and his wife Jaclyn moved into a home on the Fort Jackson military base in December 2022 with their six children, according to the lawsuit.

The home on Burt Road is owned by Fort Jackson Housing, a private-public partnership between the military and Balfour Beatty Military Housing Management, the property’s manager.

“The health and well-being of our residents is our top priority,” a statement from Balfour Beatty said. “As this matter is the subject of litigation, we will not comment beyond saying that we think the claims are entirely without merit and we will defend ourselves vigorously.”
