Election controversy: Gaffney city council tours councilmans home to decide on residency [Video]

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – City leaders in Gaffney held a special called residency hearing to address a controversial move surrounding a newly appointed city council seat.

The meeting stemmed from questions over whether newly elected City Councilman Titus Dawkins actually lives in the district he serves.

Two weeks prior to the meeting, business owner Guy Blankenship boarded up his shop with spray painted messages saying “welcome to Dawkinsville” and “back in four years when the circus is gone”.

Initially, many thought the messages were referring to the newly elected mayor, Lyman Dawkins III, but Blankenship said the messages were about councilman Titus Dawkins.

Councilman Dawkins won the race against incumbent Harold Littlejohn with 63 percent of the vote. He was sworn in in August.
