ST. PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – In just over two weeks, the constitutionally mandated end of the Minnesota Legislative Session will arrive. While the Minnesota House of Representatives spent several nights this week meeting until midnight, business in the State Senate has been much slower.
For the last two weeks, major discussion has repeatedly been stalled by motions to remove Senator Nicole Mitchell from the body. Mitchell, facing charges of first-degree felony burglary for allegedly breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home, has yet to comment on the situation to media inside the Capitol.
Republicans continue to make efforts to bar the Senator from voting, motioning to urge the Secretary of the Senate to request her resignation, prevent the Senate from recording her votes, and even restructure committees throughout the state senate.
