Calls for more taxis nationwide ahead of pre-Christmas weekend [Video]

The Taxis for Ireland Coalition has called for people out socialising during the festive period to ensure they take steps to get home safely ahead of expected high demand for taxis and public transport this weekend, one of the busiest of the year.

The group, which includes the Restaurants Association of Ireland, Vintners’ Federation of Ireland, Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, Bolt and Uber among its members, has also urged newly elected TDs to work towards an increase in taxi numbers across the country so that future such calls will not have to be made in future.

Representatives from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, the Labour Party, and the Social Democrats all supported the coalition’s call for increased taxi numbers in the general election campaign.

The coalition has also sought to remind parties and independent TDs in government formation talks not to forget taxis in their discussions about public transport.
