Lorenzo Grays lives in a very modest Wellborn home that was lacking in heating and air conditioning, was drafty, and had several rotted and missing boards in the narrow wraparound porch.
The rickety front and back stairs were not safe and needed to be replaced. All of this work and more was too much for the 85-year-old Vietnam-era veteran to do himself. When a friend and fellow veteran from Austin told Grays about work that was done to repair his home, Grays reached out to the Bryan-College Station chapter of Rebuilding Together to see what they could do. After an initial consultation with Steve Godby, executive director of Rebuilding Together BCS, a work crew came out in late October and did some work.
Grays was not happy.
