SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Residents in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill Terrace-Annex apartment complex are being evicted as the city moves forward with plans to demolish and redevelop the site.
The San Francisco Housing Authority is working to evict all residents from the large complex, which has long been scheduled for demolition. Community advocates say it’s “unconscionable” that “mass evictions” are forcing out families.
On Wednesday morning, several sheriff’s deputies knocked on the front door of an apartment, ordered its resident to leave, and boarded up the home. Deputies are used by the city to enforce evictions.
All apartments will be torn down as part of the city’s “Hope SF” project.
Hope SF’s website states that the complex is “two of the oldest public housing developments in San Francisco. Located at the southeastern edge of the Potrero Hill neighborhood, they were hastily constructed in 1941 and 1955.”
