100 plus dogs seized from Putnam County home [Video]

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and animal control seized more than 100 small-breed dogs from an Interlachen home Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said the owner is in her 80s and became “overwhelmed.” 

It added the dogs are healthy and the owner is cooperating. 

“It doesn’t appear that they’re really malnourished. But it does appear that none of them have never had veterinarian care. None of them are spayed, neutered, and it’s just a situation that’s gotten far out of hand,” Colonel Joseph Wells of the Putnum County Sheriff’s Office said.  

Wells said they are investigating the incident as an animal neglect case. 

Thursday morning officials will provide more updates. Right now, they are scrambling to find temporary homes for the dogs.
