UA graduate aims for the stars to become an astronaut [Video]

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – The University of Alabama holds its spring graduation this weekend with eight ceremonies spread out over two days.

UA leaders say 6,000 are expected to graduate. Among that number 9,000 degrees will be awarded. University officials say based on their tracking, around 52% of the graduates will remain in Alabama. But that’s not the case for one student.

Sindhu Belki is aiming for the stars and beyond. Her goal is to become an astronaut.

The dream started many years ago for Belki as a child back home in her native country of Qatar.

“For as long as I can remember I always dreamed about going into space. When I was real little, my parents brought me two books. One was about human space flights and the other one is about solar systems, and ever since then I’ve been a dreamer,” says Belki.

And the stars are lining up …
