Texas woman gets 3 years for tax evasion, embezzling workers’ health premiums [Video]

Belinda Jo Juarez was found to have stopped sending along health insurance payments without notifying employees. She’s now heading to prison.

SAN ANTONIO — A Boerne woman is heading to prison for three years and must pay more than $3.6 million in restitution to the IRS after a federal investigation found she stopped providing health insurance contributions of employees at her San Antonio-based health care company to their providers. 

Instead, the Department of Justice says, 53-year-old Belinda Jo Juarez kept the money for herself and didn’t notify workers at Superior Home Health Service that their health insurance contracts had been canceled due to non-payment. The Boerne woman was also ordered to pay $617,738.65 to those affected employees “for improperly withheld premiums and resultant medical debts,” as well as a separate $20,000 fine.
