One person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire in Sterling.
According to a release from the Sterling Fire Department, crews from Sterling and Rock Falls with CGH EMS were dispatched Wednesday, September 25 at 5:05 p.m. for a structure fire in the 600 block of W. 5th St. in Sterling, with an occupant still inside the home, possibly trapped in a bedroom. Crews on scene discovered smoke from the 2 ½-story duplex home.
Police were on-scene and working to secure the scene and account for occupants. Crews began fire-attack operations and entered the home. Crews located fire in a second-floor bedroom. The fire had extended into the attic and ceilings of the second floor. One occupant was transported to CGH with smoke-inhalation symptoms.
