A special prosecutor has been appointed to lead the state’s team in the upcoming retrial of Karen Read in the death of her boyfriend, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said Wednesday. The first murder trial for Read, 44, ended in a hung jury. The Mansfield woman is accused of hitting John O’Keefe with her SUV outside a Canton home on Jan. 29, 2022, and leaving him to die in a snowstorm following a night of drinking.“(Special Assistant District Attorney Hank Brennan) is a highly respected and skilled former prosecutor and long-time defense attorney with over 25 years of experience in state and federal courts and has expertise handling complex law enforcement matters,” Morrissey said in a statement.
