The other evening, Nipuna Wanigasinghe was driving home from work near his home outside of Melbourne, Australia, when something caught his eye. It was unlike anything he’d ever seen before.
“I spotted an unusual little fellow on the sidewalk,” Wanigasinghe told The Dodo. “She didn’t move, was just staring at the passing cars.”
Intrigued by the mysterious figure, her pale fur almost seeming to glow in the shadowy night, Wanigasinghe hit the brakes to take a closer look.
Nearing the animal, Wanigasinghe determined her to be a young brushtail possum, a species native to the region. But this was the first he’d ever run across who had this particular coloration.
“I’ve never seen one like that,” Wanigasinghe said.
