Homegrown visual effects firms wow big-name productions [Video]

The Dublin-based company behind the special effects on the hit Disney+ series Shogun is striving to make Ireland a hub of visual effects.

The team at SSVFX, an arm of Ireland’s leading post-production company Screen Scene, was the main visual effects (visual FX) providers on the historical drama set in Japan.

The company also worked on such major films and TV productions as The Irishman, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.

Screen Scene managing director Jake Walshe is also the chairman of Digital Effects Association of Ireland, which is comprised of his company and five others.

“Our plan is that we would see Ireland as being a hub for visual effects,” said Walshe.

He said the six companies are “effectively all working at a very high level for US clients, European clients – the shows everyone would know on the streamers or terrestrial TV”.
