Devastating event: 22-year Marine veteran among those killed in midair collision [Video]

WASHINGTON (WANF/Gray News) – Another crash victim from last week’s midair collision in Washington, D.C., has been identified.

Lt. Col. Brian Ellis was aboard American Airlines Flight 5342 when it collided with an Army helicopter on Wednesday and killed 67 people.

He was returning home from a business trip in Kansas, according to The Baltimore Banner.

The Virginia resident was a 1989 alumnus of Morrow High School in Clayton County before graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1993.

Ellis, who was 53 at the time of his death, was a starter on the Morrow High School State Championship football team in 1987 and became the starting quarterback his senior year, Clayton County Public Schools said in a prepared statement.

He was also on the Navy football team, playing in 22 games at quarterback over two seasons and became the starter in 1992 after Jim Kubiak suffered an injury in the season opener.
