Community remembers Dontre Hamilton in 10th annual ‘Dontre Day’ [Video]

Tuesday marks 10 years since a Milwaukee police officer shot and killed Dontre Hamilton.On April 30, 2014, Officer Christopher Manney confronted Hamilton for sleeping in Red Arrow Park. Witnesses said a scuffle between the two ensued, and Manney shot Hamilton 14 times.Manney was fired, but never prosecuted.Hamilton’s family, community members and political leaders now gather to celebrate Dontre’s life called, “Dontre Day,” around the day of his death each year. Saturday, the Hamilton family said they are trying to turn tragedy into triumph and make change in the community after Hamilton’s death. “We’ve come a long ways from where we were 10 years ago, but we still have to keep pressing the bar,” said Dameion Perkins, Hamilton’s brother.
