A Northern California family is reunited with a statue of the Virgin Mary that was stolen from their home.The homeowner, Kenny Kieu, tracked it down after a sister station KCRA viewer spotted it for sale online.”He found the statue through KCRA that it was being offered on a site called OfferUp, where it was trying to be sold privately. Did some work of his own. And was able to kind of track it to this residence here,” said Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. After a story aired Sunday night stating the statue had been stolen, Kieu messaged the sellers and alerted deputies to a home on Sheldon Lake Drive. Kieu waited for several hours on Monday as deputies searched the property. “He did the right thing and alerted us. And this is when we got involved. He didn’t try to take any action in his own hands,” Gandhi said. KCRA’s helicopter captured exclusive video of the statue on a trailer, which was partially covered by a tarp on the property.Gandhi said they believe more stolen property could be uncovered from the property.”Right now, the primary focus is the statue. That’s what we have information on right there. If anything else becomes uncovered, that hopefully maybe leads us to some other cases,” Gandhi said. Gandhi said it was necessary in order for Kieu and his family to get justice.”It’s painstaking, but it’s rewarding at the end because, again, it’s all done the right way. He’ll have his property back, and the responsible people will be taken to jail once this is all wrapped up,” Gandhi said. Kieu was eventually allowed to take his Virgin Mary statue home once the investigation wrapped up around 8 p.m. Monday. Kieu thanked KCRA as he drove away with the statue in the bed of his truck.”Feels good. I got it! Thank you,” Kieu said. According to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the two arrested are facing charges of grand theft. More charges could be coming once a full investigation is wrapped up. Sheriff deputies are still looking for one suspect who was involved in the crime.
