SUNY Plattsburgh welcomes students for fall 2024 semester [Video]

The fall 2024 semester is officially underway at SUNY Plattsburgh. Despite some changes on campus, the excitement remains strong as thousands of students return to their home away from home, filling Rugar Street with the familiar buzz of move-in day.Among the new arrivals is Hannah Hartigan, a sophomore transfer student from Norfolk, New York. For her, SUNY Plattsburghs location couldnt be more perfect.I love being close to the Adirondacks, I know thatll be fun. I also love just being able to go home when I want to. But staying on campus is definitely a good mixture of location. Hartigan said. In an effort to ease the transition for new students, SUNY Plattsburgh has combined orientation with move-in week this year. The goal is to help students feel at home from the start. We want them to feel like this is home, its important to do activities and get them engaged with other students before they have to start classes, said Xavier Bressett, a community director at SUNY Plattsburgh. The excitement isnt limited to campus. The local Plattsburgh community is also abuzz as students and their families use move-in week to explore the area. Its always exciting when they come back, theyre excited to be here, theyre out exploring. Its fun for them to look at what stores and restaurants are here, said Pat MacMannise, a retail associate at A Beautiful Mess in Downtown Plattsburgh. While the transition to college life can be daunting, students like Hartigan are eager to make the most of their time as Plattsburgh Cardinals.Im looking to make some new friends and get used to the campus, Hartigan said.Bressett emphasized the importance of exploring both the campus and the surrounding area. Getting out and just discovering what the area or the college campus has for you is super important, he said.Orientation activities will continue throughout the weekend, with classes set to begin on Monday.
