CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A battery-powered children’s book caught fire in a car seat in Burke County — but the publishing company says the batteries are not lithium, as some have suspected.
A car seat caught fire in the Williams family’s minivan in Burke County on Sunday, Aug. 25. Investigators determined that the cause of the fire was a battery-powered book — titled “CoComelon J. J. ‘s Potty Time” — that was left under the seat in the van.
Destiny Williams, mother of toddler Misty, said she and her daughter had arrived home from church 20 minutes before the fire started. A neighbor noticed smoke coming from the family’s vehicle and warned them.
They were able to extinguish the fire with a hose before first responders arrived. Photos from the aftermath showed the child’s car seat severely burned through the bottom.
