Baton Rouge man turns his home into Mardi Gras House Float [Video]

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – If you’re just passing through North Baton Rouge, you might think Dougherty Drive looks like all the others, until you get close enough to see Kerry Haynes home dubbed the Mardi Gras House Float. This is the sixth Carnival Season Haynes has brought his home to life and he’s got it down to a science.

“I always try to graph it on paper first then come outside to see well how would this work here? or how would that look there?,” explained Haynes.

From the ribbons to unique wreaths and even the streamers, Haynes hand makes almost all the elements for his house float. He said he has a good eye for different things and his favorite piece is the masks he hand glitters.

Bodycam footage shows the moment a trainee officer and his partner saved a disabled man from a large house fire. The blaze started early Sunday morning (26 January). The Lee County Sheriffs Office said field training officer Rachel Bauer-Fithian and deputy trainee Tyler Voege were first on scene at the North Fort Myers home. According to LCSO, Bauer-Fithian attempted to crawl through the house, but the smoke was too thick. The deputies broke a window to reach the man, who was trapped in a bedroom.
