FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The City of Fargo is upgrading its water meter technology by transitioning to an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. This upgrade includes the replacement of all water meters in Fargo homes and businesses.
The replacement project will begin in September 2024 and continue through 2026. The city says the work will happen in phases based on property locations. Customers will receive instructions on how to sign up for an appointment when installation is beginning in their area.
The Fargo Public Works Department says the AMI system will improve customer service, optimize operations, reduce water loss and enhance the management of water resources. The new digital water meters will use wireless radio frequencies – similar to a cellphone or wireless internet – to send and receive information.
