Charlotte homeowners say neighboring development project causes yards to flood [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Every time it rains, homeowners along Coxe Avenue in the historic West End of Charlotte say they dread what will happen next.

“Every weekend we’re spending power washing our driveways, washing our lawns, cleaning our carpets because it’s impossible to not track red clay in,” Margaret Borg told WBTV.

Borg’s home is right next to newly built townhomes.

“Development is … single-family, but we can’t leave the environment or the land adjacent to where we develop in a worse state, and that’s exactly what they’re doing,” homeowner Drew Farnie said.

Farnie lives a few houses down from Margaret. He works as a civil engineer specializing in stormwater.

“The city has said that if we put a wall in we might be liable for any damages, so we did a sandbag wall for a temporary fix,” he said.

Farnie and Borg both bought houses here in 2017.

Borg installed a sump pump in 2018, which she says solved the initial drainage issues they were experiencing …
