UPDATE (10/07/24) — Sand Springs police responded to the death of a child on Sunday at 10:57 a.m.
In a press release from the Sand Springs Police Department, another child was taken into custody following the incident.
Sand Springs Deputy Chief Todd Enzbrenner said the children involved were 11 and 12 years old and live with their grandparents.
He said the guns in the home were stored in a safe, but the children found the key and two guns were taken.
One of the kids made it seem like the guns were still in the safe, so the adults were unaware they had been taken.
Police said after interviewing the child who pulled the trigger, they believe the shooting was accidental.
This investigation is still ongoing and FOX23 will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
