A quiet UK town mysteriously became a ‘foam party in Ibiza’ after pollution from a nearby river filled the air with bubbles.

Roads and cars near the River Tame in Dukinfield were covered in white bubbles as the mysterious substance was blown by the wind.

Those living closest to the river were startled by the surreal display outside their homes.

‘It was horrendous,’ said Derek Cooper, 89. ‘It was all up in the air. It was like a snow storm. At the back [of my house] it was full of foam.’

The unusual scene shocked commuters on their way to work this morning, with bubbles covering roads and pavements.

One resident living close to the river, who asked not to be named, said she had never seen anything like it before. ‘I was looking out of the window at the back,’ the 51-year-old said.
