JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — For nearly a year we have been sharing the stories of homeowners in the Rebuild Florida program who have turned to First Coast News for help. They joined the state program to get their homes that were damaged in Hurricane Irma in 2017 repaired or replaced but say the program has been full of problems and broken promises.
We took their concerns about a lack of oversight, accountability and work they describe as shoddy to Congressman John Rutherford. The program is funded with a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He in turn wrote a letter to the U.S. HUD Office of Inspector General (OIG) asking for answers, who then responded.
