What to expect from lawmakers this legislative session [Video]

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Connecticut saw historic tax cuts passed last year, but this year state lawmakers may have less money to spend.

Opening day is Wednesday for this year’s legislative session, and there are lots of priorities.

We are in the second year of a two-year budget, which means many big priorities have passed.

But those who didn’t get much help last year are still hopeful.

It’s that time of year again when lawmakers are trying to find money in the budget.

Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans met behind closed doors.

Nonprofits are hoping for more funding but spending could be tight this year.

“Every session is challenging. Each in a different way. But this year will be especially challenging because it’s the second year of the biennium. Essentially the budget is crafted already and people are counting on that money,” said Sen. Cathy Osten (D – Appropriations Committee).
