Well-respected Burlington group home employee accused of sex acts with child, documents say [Video]

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A man who works at a Piedmont Triad group home is accused of having sex with an underage resident.

According to warrants, Burlington Police Department charged Sha Walt Haqyar, 35, of Greensboro, with felony indecent liberties with a child, felony sex act by a substitute parent/custodian and felony statutory sex offense with a child, stemming from an April 27, 2024, offense.

Warrants explain that Haqyar “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did commit and attempt to commit a lewd and lascivious act” with a fifteen year old that lived in the group home that Haqyar worked in at the time.

The group home had no comment about the arrest or allegations when reached by phone, but the CEO of the company confirmed his employment, stating:
