On this date (FEB 6-7) in weather history… 46 years ago — the Blizzard of ’78 was still raging across southern New England going on day 2 of the historic storm.
As a young teenager growing up in Warwick RI, I and many others, remember this storm vividly. It also influenced me to become a meteorologist.
In Rhode Island, 20-30″ of snow fell across most of the state, but more than 30″ fell in northern Rhode Island and northern Bristol County, MA. Wind gusts along the coast reached hurricane force with severe ocean flooding/tidal surge….especially across east coastal Massachusetts
The Blizzard of ’78 remains the biggest snowfall from one storm for Providence.
