Use of smart home security systems has almost doubled since 2022 [Video]

The use of smart home security solutions has almost doubled in the past two years as Irish homeowners embrace smart tech.

Smart home security systems include everything from alarm systems, security cameras to doorbells.

According to the Central Statistics Office in the first six months of 2024, three in ten (30%) people used smart solutions for home security, compared with 17% in 2022.

While nearly three in ten (28%) people use smart solutions such as thermostats, smart meters, and light controls for energy management in their homes which is up six percent from the same period in 2022.

Inside and outside the home the number of people using smart devices has also grown.

The latest figures show 15% of people have smart home appliances such as robot vacuums, ovens, coffee machines, and internet-connected lawn mowers or garden irrigation systems for outside.

That figure was just 6% in 2022.
