Upstate school districts now hiring bus drivers [Video]

The start of school is just over a month away, and local districts tell us they’re working to fill vacancies for school bus drivers. Some say they have dozens of openings, while others say they’ve fully staffed.Halfway through summer, things are looking a little better for Upsate school districts. According to Greenville County Schools spokesperson Tim Waller, the district has around 60 bus driver openings, an improvement from over 100 just a few years ago.”It sounds like a big number; it’s a gap we’d like to close, but it’s not a huge amount. People are always coming and going for various reasons,” Waller says.He says that’s largely thanks to pay increases they’re offering drivers, including bonuses for staying with the district.”Over the years, we’ve raised our pay rate.
