The future of property taxes in Jackson County is uncertain following two unprecedented decisions in the last 24 hours.The Missouri Tax Commission released an order rolling back 75% of the county’s assessments, stating the assessments were performed incorrectly, and increases should be capped at 15%, with a few exceptions.Early Thursday morning, the Missouri attorney general filed a motion to drop the legal case against the county, which was meant to challenge the assessment process.The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought back to the court.More than 10,000 people are still actively appealing last year’s assessments, while tens of thousands more settled but at higher rates than they feel are accurate.”It’s a win!
