AUSTRALIA (Nine News) – Millions of Australians now have the right to ignore work-related calls, texts and emails after hours.

The Right To Disconnect laws are being called a watershed moment for corporate Australia but industry groups said the laws are causing widespread confusion.

Stephen McGibbon works for a government agency and Steve Howland works at a big bank.

Both know what it is like to be hounded by a boss but now, they have the legal right to ignore them.

“I think people’s work life will get massively better,” Howland said.

They say the lines between work and home have become blurred leading to a spike in burnout.

“Workload just goes up and up and up. It’s almost as if your employers in the finance industry expect my employer to be my religion,” Howland said.
