Legendary actor James Earl Jones passed away at his home on September 9, 2024, according to media reports. He was 93. Jones was well-known to Star Wars fans as the voice of Darth Vader, and to Disney fans as the voice of Mufasa from The Lion King. Other notable roles included playing Jack Jefferson in The Great White Hope, King Jaffe Joffer in Coming to America, and Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian (see “‘Thulsa Doom’“). Jones was the rarest of show business successes, an EGOT winner, with two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, an honorary Oscar, and a Grammy Award (for a spoken word album).
