‘Hope’ on the minds of many Patriots fans following Drake Maye’s performance during Sunday’s game [Video]

Hope was on the minds of many Patriots fans after watching Drake Maye start as quarterback for the first time last Sunday.”I think it was a great showing out there,” Patriots fan Matt Pare said. “Unfortunately, it was still a loss, but it gives you hope for the future.”Maye, the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, was selected over Jacoby Brissett to be the starting quarterback for the Patriots ahead of last Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.”I think he’s better than Brissett,” Patriots fan Chris Skelley said. “I think he’s going to bring us home another ring. I think he’s the next ‘one”.In his first NFL start, Maye completed 20 of 33 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns, but at two interceptions and a fumble.”I’m excited,” Patriots fan Ryan McHugh said. “I think he’s a great player. I think if we develop around him, we’ll be a good team. So, hopefully, it’ll come in the near future.”Following the game on Sunday, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was also optimistic about his rookie quarterback.”I thought Drake made some good decisions out there,” Mayo said. “I thought he had some good reads. I thought he tried to get the ball out of his hands, and I thought he did a good job extending plays with his legs and picking up first downs.”Although last Sunday’s game ended in a 41-21 loss for the Patriots and there is a lot of improvement needed in other positions, for many fans, it was the best performance they had seen from the team all season.”That’s the main reason I was excited to get to go because I got to watch Drake Maye’s first start. I was so excited for that game,” said Jesse Nease, who is visiting from Tennessee and was at Sunday’s game. “As soon as he gets a team around him, an offensive line, some receivers, I think he’s going to be the real deal.”The Patriots head to London to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday.

New Orleans shooting damages man’s home, car [Video]

A homeowner in an Uptown neighborhood said there’s damage to his property left behind after a New Orleans police officer shot a burglary suspect last week. Gunshots woke Joseph Henican on Thursday morning and left bullet holes around his property.”That sounded right outside of our bedroom. There’s several on the house and a brick blown off the wall right behind me,” said Henican. On Thursday, the New Orleans Police Department was chasing a suspected burglar in the 1200 block of State Street when shots were fired. Pieces of brick are now scattered on the ground, just feet away from Henican’s car, which was also damaged. “A side view mirror was blown out of a car we owned for three days. Another car, both of which were in our driveway, had multiple gunshot holes in the side of the vehicle,” said Henican.According to police, the chase started on State Street and ended two blocks over on Ivens Robinson’s porch.”I don’t know if shocking is the word. It was sad to see it happen in a place where you think you’re safe,” said Robinson.Police believe the suspect was also involved in multiple burglaries in several areas of the city. The NOPD did not say what led to the shooting, and according to Robinson, a weapon was found in his yard.”When the dog sniffed, the dog sniffed the gun, they all cheered,” said Robinson.Robinson did not have damage to his property, but for his neighbor, he plans to make repairs. Henican said he doesn’t know all the details but believes the police did what they could to keep others safe.”Those things depend on the circumstance, and I wasn’t there to see the circumstance, and maybe under the circumstance, that was the best thing for them to do,” said Henican.WDSU reached out to the NOPD for an update on the case, including the identity of the suspect. A spokesperson with the department said the suspect is still in the hospital and will be booked once released.
