One woman said she is frustrated and she has been living in a hotel for over a month. “All of these apartments had structural damage, infrastructure issues, mold,” said Lachaundria Hairston. “We have holes. We have water damage. The water drains through the pipes, through the venting systems, onto our floors.” Hairston, who has lived in the neighborhood since 2020, added that being displaced has caused some kids who live here to miss school due to problems with bus pickups, prompting parents to find alternatives. “It’s been a lot of parents carpooling,” she said. “It’s been a lot of parents trying to put together funds so we can afford gas to get back and forth. The issues have prompted some residents to appeal to city leaders.
