Rogers woman visiting New Orleans for Sugar Bowl reacts to attack [Video]

IS FLUID AND NO ONE SHOULD JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS. REPORTING IN WASHINGTON, I’M KALYN NORWOOD. OFFICIALS SAY THE SUGAR BOWL HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL TOMORROW NIGHT. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TRAVELED TO LOUISIANA FOR THE SUGAR BOWL THAT WAS SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT – INCLUDING A FAMILY FROM ROGERS. 40/29’S ABNER SOSA SPOKE TO THEM FROM NEW ORLEANS TONIGHT. THAT WOMAN – BETH RIVERA – IS FROM ROGERS. SHE TELLS US THAT SHE WAS SLEEPING WHEN THE SOUND OF WHAT SHE THOUGHT WAS FIREWORKS WOKE HER UP AROUND 3 THIS MORNING. “it was a little bit later that, you know, I found out that there had actually been an incident. And what I thought was fireworks was actually gunshots.” FANS ATTENDING THE POSTPONED SUGAR BOWL IN NEW ORLEANS ARE SHARING REACTION FOLLOWING A DEADLY ATTACK ON BOURBON STREET. BETH RIVERA LIVES IN ROGERS — AND SAYS THINGS LOOKED DIFFERENT WHEN SHE AND HER SON LEFT THIER HOTEL WEDNESDAY MORNING. “I mean, every intersection has some type of police or law enforcement, whether it’s federal, state or local.” // “Everything is quiet. // We’ve been in the French Quarter, and… it’s not super busy like I was expecting, you know, pre- incident. But it is very, very somber, and not a whole lot of people out.” RIVERA SAYS WEDNESDAY’S ATTACK WASN’T THE FIRST TIME SHE’D BEEN NEAR TRAGEDY. “I grew up in Atlanta, so I was there obviously when the 1996, Olympic bombing took place. And so when you hear what took place, you realize, you know, how, in an instant, so many things can change.” RIVERA EXTENDED HER STAY SO SHE AND HER SON COULD MAKE IT TO THE POSTPONED SUGAR BOWL. SHE SAYS THE TRIP IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST FOOTBALL — IT’S A REMINDER TO EMBRACE LIFE DESPITE THE UNCERTAINTY. “I think that if we let fear drive us, then we would all be staying home, and that wouldn’t be very much fun. That wouldn’t be living.” OFFICIALS WITH THE SUGAR BOWL SAY THEY POSTPONED THE GAME TO ALLOW OFFICERS TO INVESTIGATE– WHILE ALSO TAKING THE TI
