Authorities in Florida arrested the ex-husband of one of the victims of a double homicide in New Market, Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins announced Monday afternoon. David Phillip Turner, 33, of Miami, remains held at a Broward County, Florida, detention center, awaiting extradition on two counts of first-degree murder, one count of home invasion and two felony gun counts.On Aug. 25, Crimea Malita Baker, 33, of New Market, and Sean Antoine Lange, 34, of Arlington, Virginia, were found shot more than 40 times in a bedroom of Baker’s home on Mandalong Court. Detectives believe the victims were living together at the time of their killings. The sheriff again called the shooting “a heinous killing” and a “crime of rage and anger.” “Turner must have been so enraged for some reason, maybe we’ll find out in the future, maybe not,” Jenkins said.The sheriff expressed his condolences to the family and to the four children who lost their parents.”This was a devastating loss to the family and to the community. Now, you’re going to have three kids grow up without their mother and several children grow up without a father,” Jenkins said. “Their lives will never be the same, but they’re with family and they’re safe.”The sheriff said an investigation led to Turner’s arrest on a beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, around 6:20 p.m. Saturday.Watch the sheriff’s news conference:The sheriff identified Turner as Baker’s ex-husband and father of three of her children.Jenkins said investigators believe Turner entered the house through a back door and fired more than 40 rounds overnight.”We were able to determine he was in Frederick County for a period of time around the murders,” Jenkins said.The sheriff said information from the community supported the investigation, leading to an arrest.The sheriff said a gun has not been recovered, a motive remains unknown and that an investigation continues.
