A North Carolina man said his life was forever changed after his wife was killed during Hurricane Helene.”I mean within an hour my entire life changed for the rest of my life, Jamie Guinn said from a hospital bed while recovering from injuries he sustained during Helene. “Love who you got because you really don’t know when they’re gone,” Guinn said while speaking about his love for his wife, Melissa. A mudslide from Helene took their home off a cliff and into the river below. “I just remember being like, I guess crushed by the house falling all around me and I can remember thinking in my head, I guess this is how Im going to die,” he said. He only had enough time to grab their son before another mudslide hit during the disaster. “And I could hear my wife, all I could remember was her screaming, ‘Babe, watch out.”He was able to save their son but couldnt get to his wife. “When I got right behind my little boy I started screaming for my wife because I couldn’t hear her anymore. Then he turned and looked at me and said, ‘Dad, I think mommy’s gone.'”His son was able to make it to a neighbors house where they got help. Guinn suffered a fractured spine and laceration to his head but is now out of the hospital. He said his wife was a good wife and mother to their children.
