The FBI has traced the movements of the suspect involved in the Bourbon Street attack on New Year’s Day, revealing a year-long trail of travel and suspicious activities. From June 2023 to December 2024, the suspect traveled to Cairo, Egypt; Ontario, Canada; and New Orleans. The FBI says Jabbar visited New Orleans on Oct. 31 and Nov. 10.During the October trip, Jabbar wore Meta glasses to record video while riding a bike around the French Quarter.FBI is trying to contact anyone who interacted with him on those trips.He wore the Meta glasses during the attack, but the FBI says they were not activated.Before traveling to New Orleans, Jabbar was seen at multiple gun stores in Texas. He also stopped at a business in Texas and purchased an ice chest.He was seen in the rented truck in Gonzales around 9 p.m. on Dec. 31.When he arrived at the Airbnb in New Orleans around 10 p.m., Jabbar can be seen on neighbors’ camera footage unloading the white pickup truck.According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, it is believed that Jabbar set the fire in the Airbnb around 12:17 a.m. before going to Bourbon Street.ATF determined that the fire was set in the hallway, and he strategically placed accelerants through the house in an effort to destroy it and other evidence of the crime.After he left the home, the fire burned to the point that it extinguished itself prior to spreading to other rooms.Around 5:15 a.m. neighbors reported the fire, which lead to the local law enforcement and Federal investigators to investigate the Airbnb in St. Roch. Around 12:41 a.m. on Jan. 1, Jabbar parked the truck and walked to Royal and Governor Nicholls Street.Video shows Jabbar placing the first improvised explosive device around 1:53 a.m. at Bourbon and St. Peter Street. The cooler with the IED inside was moved by a random person a block away a to Bourbon and Orleans Street.The FBI doesn’t believe that the person was involved in the attack.The second IED was placed around 2:20 a.m. on Bourbon and Toulouse Street. Then around 3:15 a.m. Jabbar drove the white pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon and Canal Street killing 14 people and injuring 35 others. The FBI says the investigation is still ongoing and in the early phase.

The week-long state funeral services honoring former President Jimmy Carter, who died at 100 last week, began Saturday morning. The ceremonies will honor Carters journey from his hometown of Plains, Georgia, to his esteemed role on the global humanitarian stage and as the 39th American president.On Saturday morning, individuals gathered in downtown Plains to place flowers at the base of Carter’s monument. The tribute also featured Habitat for Humanity hard hats adorned with handwritten messages, including one that read, “God bless you, Mr. President,” USA Today first reported.His specific cause of death on Dec. 29 was unclear. Carter’s death followed the passing of his wife Rosalynn on Nov. 19, 2023. She died at the age of 96 with her family by her side at the Carter home in Plains, just days after she had been admitted to hospice care.
