PHOENIX — The South Central Light Rail Extension project, aimed at connecting South Phoenix to the regional light rail system, has been delayed until later this year, leaving some business owners and residents concerned.
The project, which began in 2019, was initially slated to be completed in 2024, according to Valley Metro.
Valley Metro explained that documents showing completion dates of 2023 were before a 2019 election.
Following the election, completion dates were changed to 2024, according to Valley Metro.
Phoenix voters have repeatedly voted to continue rail expansion and investment in their community, including into south Phoenix.
However, the latest news is that the project will finish in mid-2025.
