With Christmas around the corner, Mainers have been spreading holiday cheer all around the state. While some have put a few decorations on their lawn, one couple in Scarborough goes above and beyond every year. Scott Stackpole and his wife Patty Drake started putting up their display years ago after seeing their neighbors light up their year, wanting to compete. Even today, they’re still adding lights each year. They say this year’s display took 250 hours to complete. “There’s not a lot of stuff nowadays that is really good to look at,” Stackpole said. “Just one of the things that we can do for the community.”The couple says they draw inspiration from other homes while also inspiring visitors with their own display. “We want to put the original onto the table so that when the people come by, they just say, ‘Wow,'” Drake said.Their efforts have not gone unnoticed.
