Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte celebrates 150 years [Video]

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Since 1874, countless Catholics have gathered at the corner of Fourth and Chestnut in North Platte, the home of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. In the fall of 2024, St. Pat’s commemorated its 150th anniversary.

“For the past 150 years, the people of North Platte have come here, to Saint Patrick’s Church to discover who Jesus is,” said Most Reverend Joseph Hanefeldt, Bishop of the Diocese of Grand Island. “But, imagine for a moment, the incalculable outreach that has taken place from this parish into this community, and, beyond in all the works that have flown from the people of faith of this parish.“

Lincoln County’s roots of Catholicism date back even further than the establishment of Saint Patrick’s, as the Union Pacific Railroad was being built along the Platte River, Catholic Priests carried the faith along the route of rail as far west as Cheyenne.
