Questions remain unanswered in car crash that killed Dunlap teen [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – There are more unanswered questions surrounding a head-on car crash that killed Dunlap High School student Nevaeh Mitchell in May.

Court documents revealed Mitchell was driving home from work going northbound on Orange Prairie Road past Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.

On May 4, 25-year-old Levi Dietz of Wyoming, Illinois, turned southbound onto Orange Prairie Road and drove toward Mitchell in the wrong lane. The vehicles collided, killing Mitchell and severely injuring Dietz.

Dietz pleaded guilty in Peoria County court on Thursday. He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and ordered to pay more than $1,000 in fines.

“He was not under the influence of any substance: alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medication,” said Dietz’s attorney Kevin Sullivan. “In retrospect, he should have gone around the median, which looked more like a curb to him at that location.”
