President Biden approves disaster assistance for Wrangell following deadly landslide | Homepage [Video]

Big news out of Washington for the people of Wrangell.

President Joe Biden has approved federal disaster assistance following November’s deadly landslide.

“Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster,” said a statement released by FEMA.

“Federal funding is also available to the Wrangell Cooperative Association and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the Wrangell Cooperative Association.”

Homes were destroyed and five people were killed. One more person, a young boy was missing after the slide and has never been found.

People affected can begin applying for assistance by registering online or calling 1-800-621- 3362.
