PPL reports significant increase in scams this year: Here are tips to protect you [Video]

More than two times as many scams have targeted PPL Electric customers this year compared to last year, the company announced in a Wednesday press release.

Since April, more than 300 scams have been reported to PPL. That represents a 250% increase from last year’s statistics, the company said.

The widespread scams can be disguised as a phone call, text message or even a knock at your front door.

Some signs of potential scams include people showing up at your home saying they work with PPL, being told your utility bill is past due with threats of having your services terminated if payment is not made, and being asked to make payments immediately – often times through mobile apps or with prepaid cards.
