PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The city of Portland has expanded two of its tiny home villages meant to address homelessness.
As of September, the Multnomah Safe Rest Village on Southwest Multnomah Boulevard operated by Sunstone Way has grown from just 28 pods to 100.
The seven tiny pod shelters, or ‘safe rest villages,’ across Portland are meant to provide a more individualized shelter alternative. The city says it’s seen success, with about 25% of people moving to permanent housing after living in an SRV.
Neighbors who live near the Multnomah Safe Rest Village agree work needs to be done to address the city’s housing crisis, but some say they’re concerned about the increasing number of pods.
